Training the Next Generation

One essential pillar to VWL’s mission is to train the next generation of conservation leaders. To do so, we have developed a robust internship and fellowship program where participants get involved in all aspects of VWL, from education and outreach to conservation research.

VWL mentors these students, interns, and graduate fellows to help them develop skills for a career in conservation. Areas of training include:

  • project management
  • ecological research
  • data collection and management
  • species identification
  • conservation storytelling
  • science communication

After their learning experience with VWL, our interns have continued on their paths in conservation in a number of ways. Many of them have moved onto prestigious graduate degree programs, others have moved straight into conservation jobs at other NGOs or non-profits, and others still have continued to collaborate with VWL in research through positions with other institutions.
