Inclusive Bird Walk and Bird Banding Demonstration

September 15 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join experts from Smithsonian’s Migratory Bird Center and Virginia Working Landscapes for a unique educational opportunity to learn about bird banding, one of the primary methods used to study wild birds. Participants will gain a stronger understanding of bird biology, enhance their connection to nature, and engage in conversations on conservation science. This event is designed to foster an inclusive environment where everyone can learn and connect. We warmly welcome and encourage participation from all, including those identifying with historically underserved communities, such as Minorities, Tribes, LGBTQ individuals, and people with disabilities.

Information on accessibility: While we continuously strive to enhance accessibility on our campus, we want to be transparent about our current infrastructure. The event will take place on level gravel and grass surfaces, with the bird walk conducted on a flat gravel track. Multiple benches and chairs will also be provided for attendees’ comfort. Restrooms accessible to wheelchair users will be available but will require a short car ride to reach them. We are committed to ensuring all participants have a comfortable and inclusive experience.

This is a free event, however, registration is required, as space is limited. More information will be provided to registrants at a later date.

This event is weather dependent. We will contact registrants if weather impacts the event.
